ISSUES & PRIORITIES

1. OUR RESIDENTS COME FIRST

The Oro Valley community needs councilmembers who are dedicated to prioritizing the interests of our residents. I listened to and engaged with town residents long before I was elected to the Town Council. It is truly an honor to have the responsibility to advocate for the residents who call our town home. I am fully committed to being a steadfast voice in all matters that affect our community. One of the biggest concerns residents have brought to my attention has been thoughtless rezonings that could negatively impact peoples’ lives and property values. I always put the residents first.

2. DEFEND OUR GENERAL PLAN

A majority of residents endorsed and voted for our 2016 General Plan, which reflected the community’s desire for open space, slow growth and to maintain our small-town feel. I have consistently advocated that the Town Council uphold this resident-approved plan and I will continue to do so in the future.

Our Town has recently initiated “OV Path Forward,” a comprehensive revision to the previously adopted General Plan. Residents are, once again, rejecting large scale apartments and aggressive development. Specifically, residents do not want the wholesale rezoning of commercial land for multi-family development. I feel that my role is to act as a fiduciary to the residents of Oro Valley and vote for what is in their best interest by upholding the General Plan.

3. MAINTAIN A SAFE COMMUNITY

Oro Valley is consistently ranked as one of the safest communities in Arizona. Thanks to our Police Chief Kara Riley, the Oro Valley Police Department is managed well and morale among our police officers is high. In 2023, I voted to adopt the current Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS) Pension Funding Policy that fully funded the police pension, and I will continue to provide that level of support to their retirement benefits. As a councilmember, I will always ensure that their pay remains competitive, and we continue to provide adequate staffing to maintain our safe community. In my next term on council, I will look to identify their facility needs as a priority in our future capital expenditures.

But having a safe community is more than crime prevention and traffic safety. A truly safe community also has well-maintained public infrastructure which in turn reduces the long-term financial risk for our town. You can be assured that I will focus on the condition and cost of our infrastructure and will work with council to keep residents apprised of these obligations.

4. FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

As your councilmember, I continually monitor the current financial state of our town. This necessitates constant diligence and extensive research on my part. I analyze both immediate needs and long-term trends to ensure that your tax dollars are spent wisely.

Transparency is a word that many people throw around, but for me, it is the cornerstone of the work I do on the budget on behalf of residents. Whatever I discover in my financial research, I make sure to share it in an open council meeting where residents can review the same information and judge decisions made by council.
